Capital Region politicians are working towards a possible bid for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Oak Bay Mayor Nils Jensen says the deadline for the bid is closing rapidly but Victoria has the means to make it happen as it showed back in 1994 when the games were held there.
“We are gathering information and we are will make a determination if a formal bid will go forward.”
Jensen says a bid for the games have to be put in by the end or middle of June.
“We are very fortunate in Victoria as we have great experience with this, we have great facilities and the most important part maybe is that we have the volunteers that came forward when he hosted the games in 94.”
Durban, South Africa, the city that originally had the bid for the 2022 games, pulled out in mid-march.
Jensen and other politicians were discussing the bid in a meeting on Sunday.
The Commonwealth Games are held every four years and feature athletes from more than 50 countries, mostly former British colonies.
