The brother of a murdered Victoria teen will be in the courtroom next week when the accused killer goes on trial in WashingtonState.
John Van Cuylenborg's 18 year old sister Tanya and her 20 year old boyfriend, Jay Cook, were mirdered during a trip to the U.S. in 1987.
Thanks to new technology that used DNA to generate age-progression composite drawings of a suspect, detectives identified and arrested former truck driver William Earl Talbott II of the Seattle area last year.
Van Cuylenborg told CTV Vancouver Island the technology provides an important tool for police:
" It's such a powerful tool, I think police forces, it makes so make sense for them to use it."
Van Cuylenborg has been called to testify at the trial. He says it will be difficult -- as the arrest, while a relief, also re-opened old wounds:
" It was certainly still an open wound. I think it was for my parents as well. You certainly never get over it, it's just something you try to cope with."
Talbott faces 2 counts of aggravated first-degree murder in connection with the deaths.
