Fire officials say a 3 storey home in the 700-block of Bowlsby Place in Vic West is still standing thanks to quick thinking neighbours.
At about 8pm Monday night neighbours saw smoke and called it in the Victoria Fire Department. They notified the occupants who got out with their dog. Then they grabbed a garden hose to keep the flames at bay until fire crews could get there.
The fire department says it looks like the blaze began in a porch off the kitchen, and spread upwards on the woodframe and shingle structure to the roof. The cause is undetermined at present.
An estimated $100,000 in damage includes smoke and water damage on all 3 floors at the back of the home.
Emergency Social Services is helping the displaced residents.
