A Victoria resident is hoping her quarter-million-dollar donation to the BC Cancer Foundation will lead to breakthroughs in the treatment of ovarian cancer.
Patty Pitts decided to devote money from a recent inheritance in memory of 2 close friends she lost to the disease in December and August.
" A dear aunt of mine had died last year at 95, and she and I talked quite frankly about how I was going to inherit a portion of her estate. She knew both my friends Carole and Marlene and was equally upset about their diagnosis, and she fully supporeted me in taking a portion of the estate and establishing this fund."
The significant gift establishes the "Carol Lalonde/Marlene Palmer Ovarian Cancer Research Fund" and will be used to advance research into immunotherapy research at the BC Cancer Deeley Research Centre, right here in Victoria.
Patty hopes the fund will grow, and bring new hope to British Columbians facing an ovarian cancer diagnosis.
