A Victoria woman is out to make surgical wait times in B.C. an election issue after paying for her own hip replacement.
Elizabeth Kozak says she went from physically active to barely being able to walk around the block, and would still be waiting if she hadn't dipped into her retirement savings to pay for private surgery in Quebec.
Kozak says waits for hip surgeries in BC are some of the longest in the country and politicians seem to think that's okay:
"Everywhere within the system wherever you turn, there's just an attitude of complacency and apathy. This is the way it is. This is whta we have to accept."
Kozak says when patients are allowed to deteriorate while stuck on wait lists the health care system ends up paying even more, as their post operative care takes more time and money to resolve.
Kozak was appearing on the Adam Stirling Show on CFAX 1070.
