Today at 11:00am on the lawn of the legislature the Women's March Victoria will be taking place. The march will head to Centennial Square at 11:45 a.m., where grassroots organisers and Indigenous leaders will be available to provide information on the most pressing issues affecting our communities.
Astra Lund-Phillips of the Women's March of the Victoria Chapter explains how this rally started, and why. "The march started three years ago of course, in reaction to the change in the US administration. But also a there was a tipping point where women felt the need to rally and show their support for each other."
Last year, thousands gathered at Centennial Square to hear local, inter-sectional grassroots organisers and community leaders talk about some of the most pressing issues in our communities. Families marched in support of women’s rights and equality under the banner “Look back, March forward” to celebrate the progress we have made and demand the changes that are still necessary to ensure equality, representation, health, safety and economic security for all women.
