Victoria got it's first look inside the new harbour to harbour V2V Empress Ferry Saturday.
The new ferry was expected to start operations on Monday but after a series of trials, the maiden voyage has been pushed back. CEO Hume Campbell says they want to make sure everything is right. "The ship is one hundred percent we're just making sure the crew is trained in drills fire drills safety drills, understanding the service levels that are required."
Campbell says those who booked have been understanding about the delay and he points out this isn't a government subsidized service. "This is a private family and a private company, not one dollar of government money in this venture no one has been asked to put money in other than the family."
People had the opportunity to tour the boat, test out the seats and sample some of the in sailing amenities to get a taste of the "Empress" experience.
Campbell says it's so luxurious "some people may have a hard time staying awake in the comfortable leather seats."
The cost of a ride on the V2V ranges from $80 to $200.
The first sailing is expected to go Saturday, May 6.
