C-FAX 1070's sister station 107.3 FM has rebranded as Virgin Radio, shedding the Kool FM name and changing on-air staff.
The station will play music they describe as contemporary top hits.
One of the most prominent changes is a new morning show. Former Kool FM afternoon host Brittany King moves to mornings and is joined by Chris Palliser from 94.5 Virgin Radio Vancouver. The two previously worked together at a radio station in Fort McMurray.
Palliser is originally from Victoria and says he's excited to be back in his home town. "Brittany and I are from here. We both grew up here. It’s a homecoming for me from Vancouver, and we worked together years ago so it's a reunion. We're just looking forward to getting started and having a good time."
He adds that, in today's digital world where music is at everybody's fingertips, local radio still has an important role to play in people's lives. "Personal connection, I think that's what radio is and I think that's why radio will always have its place.”
King, who also delivers television weather forecasts for CTV Vancouver Island, thinks their local upbringings will be assets. "Local radio is so important, especially when the two of us are from here. We get it. We understand Greater Victoria.”
The new "Virgin Mornings with Brittany and Chris" begins on Monday, February 11th, from 5:30 to 10 am on 107.3 FM. They’ll be followed by a local mid-day show with former Kool host Ceara K from 10am to 2pm and a local afternoon show hosted by newcomer Bailey Parker from 2 to 6pm.
