While we wait to see what BC's political landscape looks like over the next few weeks, we know there was a significant increase in turnout for this election.
We may not know exactly which party will form government yet but we do know that almost 2 million people voted. Bumping voter turnout up to 62 % from 57.1 in the last election.
Electoral Officer Keith Archer says that big jump from the last election. "With the number of voters on the voter's list at the time that the voter's list was closed on writ day. That produces a turnout percent of 62 percent, so quite a significant turnout over the last election, where it was 57.1 percent."
Archer also indicated that in addition to the recount in Courtney-Comox; there may be another recount in Maple Ridge-Mission. "So there is one guaranteed with the difference being less than one hundred and I can tell you that there have been other requests submitted as well."
Archer says the review is underway in Maple Ridge-Mission but has yet to be approved. Candidates have 3 days request a recount if there was a difference of fewer than 100 votes or reason to believe the integrity of the voting process is in question.
