BC Ferries has released information about how their services were affected by wild weather in December. In total there were 330 cancellations which is four times the average normally in that month. Normally BC Ferries has around 87 cancellations, most of which occur on the routes between the Northern Gulf Islands, and between Comox and Powell River
December 20th was the worst day when more than half the fleet was impacted, one million dollars in damage was done to Penelakut island terminal, 13 water taxi were hired for 13 days while the terminal was repaired. BC Hydro says the Dec. 20 storm left more than 750,000 customers without power, the most severe windstorms the region has seen in the past 20 years.
